About Home Energy Squad
Home Energy Squad helps Minnesota residents save energy and improve home comfort. Trained energy experts assess homes and identify ways to make them more efficient. During a visit, they evaluate energy use and comfort, install energy-saving materials like LED bulbs and weather stripping, and test equipment for safety and performance. They provide personalized recommendations for next steps, such as insulation or heating system upgrades. The Home Energy Squad is a program offered by CenterPoint Energy and Xcel Energy and delivered by CEE and ICF. The Home Energy Squad offers two types of visits: the Energy Saver Visit for homes built in or after 2000, costing $70 (reduced in some cities, free for income-qualified households), and the Energy Planner Visit for homes built before 2000, costing $100 (reduced in some cities, free for income-qualified households). The Energy Planner Visit includes a blower door test and an insulation inspection using an infrared camera. Both visits include installation of energy-saving materials and assessment of the water heater temperature. After the visit, the Energy Advisor Service helps homeowners navigate larger home improvement projects by connecting them to vetted contractors, special financing, and available rebates. Income-qualified households may be eligible for a free in-home visit and rebates to increase their home's energy efficiency. They may also be eligible for additional savings on home upgrades based on energy efficiency opportunities identified during their visit. Home Energy Squad aims to save homeowners time, energy, and money by providing custom energy-saving solutions in one convenient visit.
